Limited, Rare, Super Rare, Unique – the card types on Sorare
On Sorare, you will find various types of cards. All card types share one characteristic: they are available only in limited numbers. For collectors, this could mean that they might have a certain value someday – much like a completed sticker album for the European Championship or the World Cup in the past.
In practice, the value is likely to be significant mainly for the real stars. However, Sorare is much more than just an album for digital collectibles. The cards can also be used in other ways. You can take part in competitions where you can win a lot of different prizes.
Tech in the background
Each card is a so-called NFT (Non-Fungible Token). This means that the card is secured in the background by blockchain technology.
You don't have to know anything about the technology though. What matters is that the card belongs to you after purchase and can no longer be altered. If there is a typo or an incorrect photo on it, it cannot be corrected. If a player changes clubs, the old club remains on the card. None of that affects its use in Sorare competitions. These are the card types:
Limited
There is a maximum of 1000 of these cards per player and season.
Rare
There is a maximum of 100 of these cards per player and season.
Super Rare
There is a maximum of 10 of these cards per player and season.
Unique
There is only one of these cards per player and season.
Special card types
Similar to physical trading cards, Sorare also offers so-called Rookie Cards. These have a special marking and are created for young players who are typically playing their first season. In the next season, of course, there will be new cards for the player, but these will no longer be Rookie Cards.
This has no significance in the tournaments. However, Rookie Cards have a somewhat higher value in the collectible albums.
This also applies to specially designed cards. In the past, for example, these were created for players who were part of a championship team. The print run (e.g. no more than 1000 Limited cards per player and season) does not change. However, some of these cards have a different design than the other cards and are thus something special – especially for fans.
